The person behind “Baking by Design”

.... started by me; Svetlana Jablonsky. I choose an unusual combination for these two words. But for me they represent my passion for design and love for baking!

I am a professional architect / designer with fifteen years of experience in former USSR. After immigrating to Canada with my family, I found myself here to be more proficient as a baker. In the past I’ve been inspired by my Grandmother Anastasia, who was a wonderful baker ever since I was five years old.

My professional training started at Dubrulle French Culinary School in Vancouver, BC. Successfully I graduated a Professional Pastrty Arts and Dessert program, since then I worked as a Baker and Pastry Chef in various bakeries around the Lower Mainland to blend my skills and talents to design high quality cakes and pastries.

At the end of 2006 I decided to be self employed and pursue my dream, that’s when “Baking by Design” was created, where pastry making skills and talents blend together in designing delicious masterpieces with passion. My greatest satisfaction is in the joy and happiness of my customers. This is essentially why I create cakes that are edible work of art and full of detail, to not only show that I care, but to create something that will never be found in a bakery.

In addition to the icing on the cake I am also specialized in sculptured ( 3-dimentional ) cake designs, which can be also created in non-edible fake cakes, miniature-cakes and hand crafted sugar flowers and decorations. I keep up with the current trends and styles that allow me to chalenge myself in creating something unique each time. My inspiration comes from everywhere, but usually and most, from you, your imagination is our inspiration.
